Job Description

Position Definition: Assists in the design, implementation and maintenance of local and wide area computer, data and voice networks in offices and remote sites.

Associates degree in computer science/networks, electrical or related field and three years’ experience maintaining network environment, firewalls, other network security, and supporting network infrastructure administration. A Bachelor’s degree in one of the stated fields may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

This position is a Grade 16.

  • Effective January 1, 2022, Salary Range is as follows: $72,991.00 - $88,736.00.

Job Responsibilities

  • Arranges and installs network hardware and software as directed by the network engineer.
  • Screens network performance and reports findings to immediate supervisor.
  • Designs and implements network security measures.
  • Gives network status reports to IT director or supervisor.
  • Designs new arrangements to enhance the strength of the present network condition.
  • Investigates network issues and blackouts.
  • Redesigns and works together with network designers on network enhancements.
  • Creates and implements measures, traits, and access checks to secure network frameworks.
  • Monitors Firewall Logs and makes modifications and takes action as needed.
  • Updates and maintains networking equipment to ensure security vulnerabilities are patched and are operating at an optimal level.
  • Configures and manages Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Call Manager) VoIP telephone system.
  • Additional Duties: Serves as a resource for support staff for networking related issues.

Requirements/
Qualifications

  • Knowledge of concepts, techniques, and methods of configuring, implementing, and maintaining local and wide area voice and data networks, connectivity and interoperability.
  • Knowledge of network communication protocols (TCP/IP), and routing protocols (EIGRP and static).
  • Knowledge of internet connectivity and firewall security.
  • Knowledge of cable plant (copper and fiber) design, installation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of data and voice communications hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of control models and system security.
  • Knowledge of alarm systems, security cameras, and timeclocks Knowledge of Cisco devices – switches, routers, gateways, VPN, access points and Cisco IOS.
  • Ability to detect network issues quickly.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to understand management’s business and industry needs, and specialized requests.
  • Ability to organize workload.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with IT staff, vendors, and users.
  • Associates degree in computer science/networks, electrical or related field and three years’ experience maintaining network environment, firewalls, other network security, and supporting network infrastructure administration.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in one of the stated fields may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • License or Certification: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) preferred.
